The device has a tool holder (1) provided with a recess (3), where a coupling area of a surgical instrument is detachably inserted into the recess. A locking recess (4) is formed at an inner lying wall of the recess (3), and a locking unit (5) is brought in contact with the locking recess in a detachable manner. The locking unit is supported at the instrument and is formed at a double-sided jack (6) that extends in an axial direction. One end of the locking unit is arranged at the jack and the other end is in contact with a swiveling unit (7). An independent claim is also included for a surgical instrument comprising a coupling device.
