PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rationalize the exploring of crystallization conditions by preparing precipitation curves of an objective protein by using combinations of a hydrophilic compound and various salts as precipitants and predicting a range of the concentration of a precipitant for inducing crystallization of the protein from the precipitation curves. SOLUTION: Three kinds and one kind are selected respectively from salts and hydrophilic compounds, and then a precipitation curve of a protein in an electrostatically balanced state by each salt is prepared against the concentration of the hydrophilic compound. The concentration of the hydrophilic compound suitable for crystallizing the protein is predicted for a salt other than the selected three kinds of salts from the precipitation curves. Further, one kind is selected from the salts and two or three kinds are selected from the hydrophilic polymers. Precipitation curves of the objective protein in an electrostatically balanced state by the added salt are prepared against the concentration of respective hydrophilic compounds. From the two or three precipitation curves, the concentration suitable for the crystallization of the protein is predicted for another hydrophilic compound. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
