PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF EXPANDED POLYURETHANE ELASTOMER

An expanded polyurethane elastomer can be produced by mixing a prepolymer having a terminal isocyanate group with a foaming agent comprising a mixture of water, a low-molecular-weight glycol having a molecular weight of 48 to 200 and a high-molecular-weight glycol having a number average molecular weight (Mn) of 1000 to 3000 and agitating the resulting mixture to cause the foaming reaction of the mixture, wherein the prepolymer is prepared by reacting a polyol with 3,3'-dimethylbiphenyl-4,4'-diisocyanate. The expanded polyurethane elastomer thus prepared has high durability particularly under high loading, in spite of being prepared by using a diisocyanate compound that is inexpensive and is easy to handle.
