<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power converter system which is operated over a synchronous speed, and detects a motor speed even in vicinity to the synchronous speed without providing a speed detector at a motor shaft. <P>SOLUTION: The power converter system includes a converter 4, a capacitor 5 to smooth a direct current, an inverter 6 provided between a DC portion and AC power supply 2, a secondary frequency detecting means of a wound-rotor induction motor 1, a speed detecting means, a secondary current detecting means of the wound-rotor induction motor 1, a primary current detecting means of the inverter 6, a converter control means to control the speed adjusting effective power of the converter 4, and an inverter control means. The converter is connected to the secondary winding of the wound-rotor induction motor 1 connected to the AC power supply 2 through a series impedance 3A. The speed detecting means detects the rotating speed from a primary frequency and a secondary frequency of the wound-rotor induction motor 1.
