<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for smoothly advancing the installation operation of a printer driver. <P>SOLUTION: When a driver CD5 is set in a PC1, an installer 51 stored in the driver CD5 is started. The input screen of the IP address of a printer is displayed in the installer 51 (S1). When the IP address is input, the installer 51 makes an inquiry to the printer to which the IP address is applied about the model name (S3). When receiving a response designating the model name in response to the inquiry, a confirmation screen for instructing the installation of the driver corresponding to the acquired model name is displayed (S5).
