An emergency notification method using a portable terminal and a device therefor are provided to automatically generate an emergency message when a hot key is inputted, and to transmit the generated message to other portable terminals, so that the other portable terminals can automatically notify users of emergency information based on the message. When an event occurs, a sending portable terminal(100) generates an emergency message to send the emergency message to a mobile communication system(300)(S201-S207). The system(300) notifies receiving portable terminals(510,520,530) located within a service area of the system(300) of the emergency message if the message is received(S209,S211). The receiving terminals(510,520,530) output corresponding alarms if the message is received(S213).
