VACCINES AND METHODS FOR TREATMENT OR PREVENTION OF SALMONELLA SPP. BACTERIAL INFECTION IN A VERTEBRATE SUBJECT

Vaccine compositions comprising isolated Salmonella spp. cell culture sup ernatant for the prevention and treatment of Salmonella spp. infection are p rovided. The culture supernatant is produced under Salmonella pathogenicity island 2 (SPI-2) inducing conditions by incubating Salmonella spp. cells in a low phosphate and low magnesium medium (LPM). Methods for reducing coloniz ation and shedding of Salmonella spp. in a subject by administration of the vaccine compositions are also provided.
