<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device which can enhance area gradating properties under a contact-type development system by a non-magnetic 1 component developer. <P>SOLUTION: A development bias or an exposure energy is adjusted so as to obtain a specified density complying with the density of an isolated 1 dot image. In addition, when dot images continuous in a main scan direction are exposed to light, the exposure energy is reduced by making the exposure time spent for exposing the continuous dot images to light shorter than the exposure time spent for exposing the isolated 1 dot image to light. Thus it is possible to curb an increase in the density of a high density part from the intermediate density of the area gradation, and at the same time, inhibit the gradation collapse of the high density part.
