PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a disk from being initialized in an initialization format in which video signals of a video signal recording system currently set can not be recorded. SOLUTION: When it is determined that the disk is loaded in a step S301 and the disk is determined as a blank disk in a step S302, whether or not video images of a current camera mode can be recorded in the format being selected in a step S303 is determined in a step S304. If video images can not be recorded as a result of the determination, a warning is displayed to a user in a step S305 before a step S306 in which initialization formatting is performed, thereby easily selecting a suitable format in accordance with the type of camera mode currently set.
