PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for continuously heat-treating a metallic wire rod in which in the case of performing the continuous heat-treatment while running the metallic wire rod in a pipe, such problem as generating the surface flaw on the metallic wire rod caused by the existence of the pipe can satisfactorily be solved. SOLUTION: The pipe 19 is horizontally set in a heat-treating furnace, and in the case of performing the continuous heat-treatment by running the long metallic wire rod 15 in the pipe 19 in the longitudinal direction while holding the inner part of the pipe 19 in non-oxidizing atmosphere, a heat-resistant cloth 28 is inserted into the inner part of the pipe 19 in the axial direction and the heat-resistant cloth 28 is disposed along the inner surface including the bottom part of the pipe 19, and while cutting off the direct contact of the metallic wire rod 15 running in the pipe 19 and the inner surface of the pipe 19, with the heat-resistant cloth 28, the metallic wire rod 15 is continuously heat treated.
