PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for screening a hydrogen-producing microorganism. SOLUTION: The method for screening a hydrogen-producing microorganism comprises inoculating a sample containing microorganisms into a medium containing a metal nanoparticle and at least one kind of a coloring matter selected from an azo compound, an imine compound and a quinone compound and a substrate to be used by microorganisms, culturing the microorganisms and selecting a hydrogen-producing microorganism by using the presence of decolorization of at least one kind of the coloring matter selected from the azo compound, the imine compound and the quinone compound as an index.
