A device and method of presenting the payload of data received in an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) supported format based on the current status of a portable mobile communications device (100) is disclosed. The portable mobile communications device (100) receives data (210) in an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) supported format. The portable mobile communications device 100 then determines its current status (220) to determine (230) whether incoming IMS data should be presented as text or as speech. Next, it is determined whether the payload of the received data is in textual or audible form.
