摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor drive unit which can protect an inverter and a power supply line from an overcurrent generated at a short circuit failure. <P>SOLUTION: A control device 30 determines that an abnormality has occurred in the inverter 14 when the overcurrent is detected in one of IGBT elements of the inverter 14 at the drive of a motor generator MG1. The control device 30 brings the inverter 14 into an operation stop state according to the abnormality determination, and specifies a short-circuited phase on the basis of a motor current MCRT1 from a current sensor 24. The control device 30 simultaneously turns on the two IGBT elements which constitute short-circuited phase upper and lower arms in the discharge processing of a capacitor C2 which is executed at the stop control of a vehicle. The two IGBT elements thereby cause the short circuit failures due to an abrupt increase in thermal loss by receiving excessively large short circuiting currents. As a result, the inverter and the power supply line are prevented from being applied with overcurrents due to the back electromotive force generated at the motor generator MG1 at the towing of the vehicle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
