PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately obtain a high-resolution image with high image quality from a low-resolution image.

SOLUTION: There are provided a first filter 302 which generates an interpolation pixel of an inputted image and outputs an enlarged image; a second filter 303 such as an edge emphasizing filter constituted of a Laplacian filter, for example, for performing edge emphasis processing on the interpolation pixel of the enlarged image; and a third filter 304 such an anisotropic diffusion processing filter for performing different smoothing processes on the image on which the edge emphasis processing is performed, in accordance with the directions of edges within the image.
