PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AC generator for a vehicle, capable of preventing impact from being applied to electric components in a protective cover when falling. SOLUTION: This generator has a stator 4 around which a stator winding 6 is wound, a rotor 10 disposed so as to face the inner periphery side of the stator 4, a rectifier 24 which converts an AC voltage induced in the stator winding 6 to DC, and a rear cover 27 which covers the electrical components including the rectifier 24. The rear cover 27 has a cover-protruding portion 27A, protruding to the outside along the rotating shaft 14 of the rotor 10, and secures a space where the electrical components are not disposed inside the cover-protruding portion 27A.
