PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a reading speed while preventing image quality deterioration caused by output delay of a detection signal. SOLUTION: This image reader is provided with a detection sensor which detects a relative movement amount between a photoelectric converter and an original and outputting a detection signal in each predetermined relative movement amount, and a control part which makes the photoelectric converter receive color components of light from the original to store charges on the basis of the detection signal outputted by the detection sensor, performs an operation for opening a first gate to move the charges from the photoelectric converter and stored in a read data generating part about each of a red component, a green component and a blue component in a predetermined color order and subsequently opening a second gate to move the charges stored by the photoelectric converter from the photoelectric converter, and closes the second gate on the basis of the next output detection signal outputted after the detection signal.
