PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote control receiver which can be made small in size and low in cost. SOLUTION: The remote control receiver includes: a plurality of light reception areas PD1, PD2, PD3 and PD4 in one common mold package which receive a remote control signal in a form of incident light respectively and photoelectrically convert it; first signal processing circuits 61 to 64, 65, 67, and 69 which add signals output from the plurality of light reception areas and demodulate the remote control signal on the basis of a resultant signal and output the demodulated remote control signal; and second signal processing circuits 61 to 68 and 70 to 73 which take differences between signals output from the plurality of light reception areas to obtain and output a direction signal showing a direction in which the incident light has impinged on the plurality of light reception areas.
