PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting apparatus in which detection can be conducted easily by arranging a lighting status of a discharge lamp in a normal use on a side of an emergency lighting apparatus and provide a disaster prevention lighting apparatus automatic checking system in which an emergency lighting apparatus provided with the above discharge lamp lighting apparatus can be inspected automatically in a remote control. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting apparatus DOC includes a normal use lighting apparatus 2 to light the discharge lamp 1 in a normal use, an emergency lighting apparatus 3 to light the discharge lamp in an emergency, a detecting switch 4 to start detecting the emergency lighting apparatus and a controlling circuit 5 which is arranged in the emergency lighting apparatus and detects a lighting status of the discharge lamp by a current which flows in a normal use from a power source to a power source circuit of the normal use lighting apparatus.
