PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high quality reliable compressor and refrigerator capable of reducing noise by reducing collision of a component against an inner wall of a compressor due to a shock transmitted in stopping operation of the compressor or in closing a door. SOLUTION: A cylinder block 108 is formed out of material of smaller specific gravity than that of a stator of an electric element, and a compression element 107 is lightened as compared with the electric element 106. Consequently, the cylinder block 108 taking majority of the compression element 107 from a volume point of view is lightened and weight of the compression element 107 is reduced. Since inertia force of the compressor main body 108 at a time of rolling is reduced together with increase of stability of the compressor main body 108 by moving a position of a center of gravity of a compressor main body 108 down, collision of a hermetic vessel 103 with the compressor main body 108 is prevented, and the silent and reliable compressor can be provided.
