A METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CORRECTING THE GAMMA CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VIDEO COMMUNICATION

A method and apparatus for correcting the gamma characteristic of the video communication. The said method includes: acquiring the luminance histogram of the output luminance signal, and transforming it into the luminance distribution probability density function of the output luminance signal, and selecting the mathematical expression of the luminance distribution probability density function of the input luminance signal; transforming the problem description according to the mathematical relation among the input and output luminance distribution probability density functions and the Gamma characteristic function and therefore establishing the mathematical optimization object function and obtaining a constrained mathematical optimization problem; acquiring the constrained condition through the Gamma characteristic function and the self characteristic of the luminance distribution probability density function of the input luminance signal; solving the said constrained mathematical optimization problem to decide the Gamma characteristic parameters; realizing the Gamma correction to the Gamma sector according to the said Gamma characteristic parameters. The complete blind method of acquiring the Gamma characteristic parameters decreases the requirement of precondition adapted for the Gamma correction, therefore improves the easy usability of the Gamma correction and widens the application range of the Gamma correction.
