The pump has a suction chamber (11) and a high pressure chamber (12) connected with each other with a piston (10) over suction boreholes (13) such that the piston is locked in a position of one of the suction boreholes, so a fuel flow from the suction chamber into the high pressure chamber is prevented. The suction boreholes have a cylinder-like section (17), where truncated cone-like sections (19, 20) are connected to the section. Axes of the sections (19, 20) are twisted and/or inclined in a horizontal direction and/or in a vertical direction opposite to an axis (18) of the section (17).
