A functional grain and a preparation method thereof are provided to impart functional properties and a purple color to grain by using Lithospermum erythrorhizon Siebold & Zuccarini. A functional grain using Lithospermum erythrorhizon Siebold & Zuccarini is coated with an extract of Lithospermum erythrorhizon Siebold & Zuccarini, and/or impregnated with the extract. The functional grain is prepared by the steps of: soaking the root of Lithospermum erythrorhizon Siebold & Zuccarini in water to make a solution of Lithospermum erythrorhizon Siebold & Zuccarini; covering grain with the solution; and drying the grain. In the preparation method, the solution of Lithospermum erythrorhizon Siebold & Zuccarini is made by soaking the root powder of Lithospermum erythrorhizon Siebold & Zuccarini in water at room temperature, or heating the water with the root powder at 30~60°C for 15mim or more, and then filtering out the root powder. |
