<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar light source device easy to manufacture and minimized in power consumption, which can reduce problems by heating. <P>SOLUTION: The planar light source device 340 comprises one or more light sources 220, and a light waveguide formed into an elliptic or rectangular tubular sectional shape, including a plurality of prism shapes extending in a first direction L2 which are disposed on an upper inner surface or a lower inner surface 344 thereof, and a plurality of prism shapes extending in a second direction L1 which are formed on a lower inner surface 342.
