<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform unsharp mask processing which suppresses feeling of a surface roughness of an image by presence of pixel of a high degree of an isolated point. <P>SOLUTION: When performing unsharp mask processing, whether or not an attention pixel is a maximum value or a minimum value of a plurality of pixels surrounding it, in other words whether or not the attention pixel is isolated is determined (S901). When it is determined as a non-isolated pixel, the unsharp mask processing is performed according to established sharpness emphatic coefficient.
