<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily understand and check a use condition of a recoding medium which can record mass information, such as animation with simple operation. <P>SOLUTION: A video recording and reproducing device 1 with NFC function reads medium basic use information written in a recoding medium 2 with NFC function by proximity communication, when its own antenna 11 for reading NFC information is brought close to an antenna 21 of the recoding medium 2 with NFC function. Then the video recording and reproducing device 1 with NFC function calculates a use capacity itself of the recoding medium 2 with NFC function or an amount based on its use capacity based on this medium basic use information and its own firmware functions and mode settings, and displays the result of calculation on a display panel 12.
