MANUFACTURING METHOD OF COMPOSITE RETARDATION PLATE AND COMPOSITE OPTICAL MEMBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a composite retardation plate which hardly produces a minute crack in a coating retardation layer when used after sticking to a liquid crystal cell and thereby can suppress occurrence of light leakage and further which is excellent in water resistance and to manufacture a composite optical member by laminating other optical layer such as a polarized plate on the composite retardation plate.

SOLUTION: A primer layer 12 is formed on a surface of a retardation plate 11 consisting of a transparent resin, a coating solution containing an organic modified clay complex and a binder resin in an organic solvent is applied on a surface of the primer layer 12 and the coating retardation layer 14 is formed by removing the solvent therefrom to obtain the composite retardation plate 10 having layer constitution of the retardation plate/the primer layer/the coating retardation layer. Thereby a crack which is easy to occur there is prevented. Further water resistance of the primer layer 12 is improved by subjecting the composite retardation plate 10 in this state to heating curing. The polarized plate is laminated on the composite retardation plate 10 to obtain the composite optical member.
