The invention disclosed in this application relates to novel nanoparticles of apotransferrin / transferrin which are useful for preparing pharmaceutical composition containing a drug facilitating easy delivery of the drug contained therein. The invention also relates to a process for producing said nanoparticles, and the pharmaceutical composition containing said nanoparticles The nanoparticles of apotransferrin / transferrin can be conjugated with any reporter like Fluorescein isothiocyante or Rhodamine isothiocyante or any other (fluorescent agents) and can be used as probes for monitoring their cellular localisation. The composition is useful for the delivery of drugs especially cancer drugs and neuroactive agents.
