<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide component mounting equipment in which the rotary positioning precision can be secured while enhancing the positioning operation efficiency, and to provide component mounting method and program. <P>SOLUTION: In component mounting for picking up a component from a component feeder by means of a suction nozzle, and then transferring and mounting the component on a substrate, when the component held by the suction nozzle is positioned at a predetermined rotary position by rotating the suction nozzle about the nozzle axis in the regular direction or the non-regular direction reverse to the regular direction; the time required for rotary positioning is calculated for two directions, i.e. the regular direction not requiring to take into account of the positioning error due to backlash and the non-regular direction requiring to take into account of the positioning error (ST12), and then the direction requiring a shorter time for rotary position is determined as the rotational direction (ST13).
