PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform image pickup by fixed focus by immediately canceling automatic focusing without troubles of mode switching or the like. SOLUTION: The image pickup device includes: a photographing system circuit having an automatic focusing function and including a motor 11 and a lens optical system 12 photographing a subject image; a key input part 30 having two steps of operation strokes and including a shutter key 9 directing the automatic focusing and automatic exposure by an operation at the first step and directing photographing by an operation at the second step; and a control part 22 automatically setting a proper exposure value in the photographing system circuit, detecting directing operational states at the prescribed first and second steps by the shutter key 9, and performing switching to select whether to operate the automatic focusing of the photographing system circuit or to establish the fixed focus position achieving a fixed depth of field, according to the detection result.
