PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compactly arrange a drive actuator of a variable valve device on a cylinder head, and to secure maintainablity. SOLUTION: In this engine upper structure provided with the cylinder head of a multiple cylinder engine having the variable valve device, and a head cover for covering an upper part of the cylinder head, the variable valve device is provided with the drive actuator for controlling variably a lift characteristic of a valve in each cylinder, and a bracket disposed on the cylinder head and for supporting the drive actuator, the bracket has a hole part for inserting one out of ignition units of the respective cylinders, and has a bottom wall for forming an arrangement area for an upper part of the ignition unit inserted through the hole part and the drive actuator, and the head cover has an opening part for exposing the arrangement area, and an inner circumferential part extended downwards to surround the arrangement area.
