PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protection fixture for installing a steel pipe provided with an inner joint pipe, and a steel pipe installation method capable of surely and easily burying the steel pipe without deforming or damaging a bayonet joint pipe of the steel pipe. SOLUTION: The protection fixture 6 for installing the steel pipe is used for the steel pipe 1 which is provided with the inner joint pipe 10 comprising a bayonet joint structure 3 as a pair of outer joint pipes 20 and provided with a tube body 60 having a height h60 which is higher than the sum of a height h18 from an end which is not connected with the steel pipe 1 of the inner joint pipe 10 to a step 12 and the height h11a of a thick-walled part 11a. The protection fixture for installing the steel pipe 1 is provided with the inner joint pipe 6 in which a contact part 61 abutting on a step 12 of the inner joint pipe 10 for transferring a striking force which is given at the time of installing the steel pipe 1 at the inner wall face of the tube body 60 is provided, and a tensile force transferring means for transferring the tensile force which is given at the time of installing the steel pipe 1 to the inner joint pipe 10 is provided at an opposite position of the thick-walled part 11a of the tube body 60.
