In an identification medium (3) using a cholesteric liquid crystal cell (22) which can be optically identified, a microcapsule-containing layer (32) containing microcapsules (1) and (2) is provided in contact with a black pressure-sensitive adhesive layer (24) having such a structure as facilitating the penetration of an organic solvent. The microcapsules (1) and (2) are made of a material soluble in an organic solvent, in which the black pressure-sensitive adhesive layer (24) is soluble, and contain respectively a dye and a color-developing agent encapsulated therein. When an organic solvent is allowed to penetrate into the black pressure-sensitive adhesive layer (24) and the identification medium (3) is stripped off, the microcapsules are broken and the dye and the color-developing agent are mixed together, which causes the color development. Thus, incorrect reuse of the identification medium (3) can be prevented.
