The safety device (2) has a safety housing, which surrounds running material rolls (18,18') to under retention of a gap to the passage of material webs. The safety housing has two safety parts (3,4), which move to each other in opposite directions. The former safety part is fixed to an empty roll receptacle and the later safety part is moved in opposite direction at a roll replacing machine (1), transversely to a rolling carrier axle (9) and extends over the entire roller width.
