In a method for driving a plasma display, one field is constituted of a plurality of subfields having an initialization period, a writing period and a sustention period. In one field period, an entire cell initialization subfield is provided for generating initialization discharge by applying an initialization voltage to all the discharge cells that perform image display in the initialization period. The initialization voltage can be varied such that it becomes lower in a case where an image is displayed under predetermined conditions compared with a case where an image is not displayed under the predetermined conditions. ® KIPO & WIPO 2008
