An image forming apparatus sensing the fault of a thermistor is provided to check the short circuit of the thermistor by comparing a node voltage with a second reference voltage while controlling the overheat state of a fixing unit by comparing the node voltage formed in an end of the thermistor with a first reference voltage, thereby checking the short circuit of the thermistor irrespective of the fault of a transistor. An image forming apparatus comprises a temperature sensing unit(110), a comparing unit(120), a thermistor fault sensing unit(130), and a fixing control unit(140). The temperature sensing unit outputs a voltage value corresponding to temperature using the thermistor. The comparing unit compares the voltage value outputted from the temperature sensing unit with a first reference value. The thermistor fault sensing unit checks the short circuit of the thermistor using a value corresponding to a node voltage formed in an end of the thermistor and a second reference voltage. The fixing control unit controls the operation of the fixing unit according to output values respectively outputted from the comparing unit and the thermistor fault sensing unit.
