A method for driving a plasma display panel is provided to decrease power consumption of the PDP(Plasma Display Panel) by suppressing an unnecessary address discharge during a grayness representation process. A PDP driver includes an ADC(300), a memory(302), a driving controller(304), an address electrode driver(306), a sustain/scan electrode driver(308), and a common sustain electrode driver(310). The memory stores digital image data from the ADC. The driving controller monitors respective pixel grayness values in a stored image frame. The driving controller controls the address electrode driver, the sustain/scan electrode driver, and the common sustain electrode driver, so that discharge pulses are applied on address, scan/sustain/ and common sustain electrodes on the PDP. The driving controller omits an address period having a zero sustain period from a sub-field to prevent unnecessary address discharges in the address and scan/sustain electrode drivers.
