A light emission device and a liquid crystal display device using the light emission device as a backlight unit are provided to decrease power consumption of the display device by recycling the light, which is reflected back by a reflective layer. First and second substrates(12,14) are opposed to each other and form a vacuum container. An electron emitting unit(18) is provided on one surface of the first substrate. A light emitting unit(20) is provided on one surface of the second substrate. The light emitting unit includes plural fluorescent layers(30), a reflective layer(32), and an anode electrode(34). The fluorescent layers are arranged on one surface of the second substrate to be apart from one another. The reflective layer is formed between the fluorescent layers. The anode electrode is arranged on the fluorescent layer and on one surface of the reflective layer.
