A method for receiving DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) in an external USB type for a portable game console and an apparatus thereof are provided to convert previously received DMB signals into video and voice formats suitable for a portable game device such as PMP(Portable Multimedia Player), or PSP(Play Station Portable) in a DMB receiving apparatus and transmit the DMB signals to the portable game device through the USB port of the portable game device, thereby enabling a user to watch DMB even in the portable game console such as the portable game device. A method for receiving DMB in an external USB(Universal Serial Bus) type for a portable game console comprises the following steps of: connecting an external USB-type DMB receiving apparatus(300) to the USB port of the portable game console; receiving terrestrial or satellite DMB through a terrestrial or satellite DMB receiving chip installed in the external USB-type DMB receiving apparatus; converting the received terrestrial or satellite DMB into a signal type suitable for the portable game console; and transmitting the converted terrestrial or satellite DMB signal to the USB port of the portable game console through a USB port(370).
