OPTICAL MEDIUM RECOGNITION SYSTEM AND METHOD

An optical medium recognition system and method are provided to reduce recognition time of an optical drive for an inserted optical medium by using a single laser in the optical drive. An optical medium comprises a data layer(40), and embedded discrimination information. The data layer stores data which are readable by a first laser. The embedded discrimination information stored in an optical medium is readable by the first laser and a second laser having different wavelengths. The embedded discrimination information discriminates the optical medium related to the first laser. A protective surface is placed on the data layer. The first laser includes a blue laser(46), the second laser includes an infrared rays laser(50) and a red laser(48).
