<p>A paper sheet processing apparatus includes a plurality of bundling devices which bundle paper sheets, which are stacked in a plurality of stacking units, in units of a predetermined number of paper sheets, and a plurality of chute devices which temporarily hold bundles (H) of the paper sheets, which are bundled by the bundling devices, and release the bundles onto a first transfer conveyor (76). A second transfer conveyor (77), which is slower in speed than the first transfer conveyor (76), is disposed on a downstream side of the first transfer conveyor (76). A transmission sensor (79), which detects abnormality in length of the bundle (H) by detecting passage of the bundle (H), is provide at a position along the second transfer conveyor (77). The distance from a release position of the bundle (H) from the chute device, which is located on a most downstream side in a direction (D) of conveyance of the bundle (H), to a terminal end of the first transfer conveyor (76) and the length of the second transfer conveyor (77) are set such that a time (T1) until the bundle (H), which is released from the most downstream chute device, is transferred onto the second transfer conveyor (77) is longer than at least a time (T2) until the bundle (H), which is transferred from the first transfer conveyor 76, passes through the second transfer conveyor (77).
