An assembly for fixing two components together comprising three fixing means, wherein the first fixing means 13, attached to the 1<st> component 10, has a through-hole 26 into which the second fixing means, yokes 28 and 29, slot from opposite ends having 1<st> passed through the wall of the 2<nd> component 11. Third fixing means, bolt 30, passes through the 2<nd> fixing means 28 and 29 and the through-hole 26 in the 1<st> fixing means 13. The two components 10 and 11 are thus releasably secured together. The components 10 and 11 may form two halves of a newel post for a staircase. Yoke 29 may be threaded to engage bolt 30, preferably yoke 28 has a stepped bore. Through-hole 26 is preferably chamfered to engage complementary yokes. The 1<st> fixing means may be secured in a bore in the 1<st> component 10 by a pin 18 passing through the 1<st> fixing part and received in a cross-bore (17, fig 1) in the 1<st> component. |
