IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO FILTERS

A method of manufacturing a filter is disclosed in which first and second housing components (10,20) are provided that are engageable with each other so as to define an enclosure for accommodating a filter medium (30). The first housing component (10) includes a continuous seat (18) that extends about the periphery of said enclosure. A bead of adhesive (40) is then applied to either the seat (18) of the first housing component (10) or a continuous part of the filter medium (30) that overlies said seat (18,118). The first and second housing components (10,20) are then engaged together such that pressure is applied to the bead of adhesive (40), and adhesive (40) is displaced into contact with an adjacent surface of the filter medium (30) and/or an adjacent surface of at least one of the housing components (10,20). The adhesive (40) thereby forms a seal between the filter medium (30) and at least one of the housing components (10,20). The filter may be used in artificial respiratory systems e.g anaesthetic or ventilator systems.
