A latch comprises a casing (1), a latch bolt (17), a latch bolt lath (11) slidably mounted in the casing (1) and a follower (21) pivotally mounted in the casing (1). The follower (21) and the latch bolt lath (11) are so designed that the latch bolt lath (11) is moved to retract the latch bolt (17) into the casing (1) when the follower (21) is turned in either direction. Arms (24,25) are pivoted on the follower and engage bolt lath apertures via pins (38,39). Follower rotation in either direction causes a respective arm to rotate and retract the bolt. Separate return springs (28,29) act on the arms (24,25) and may be of different strengths. The bolt head may be turned to allow different handed operation. |
