摘要 A cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery is provided to prevent generation of impurities such as Li2Co3 and LiOH caused by the bonding of Li with CO2 and H2O, thereby improving the lifespan and high-temperature storage characteristics of a battery. A cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery comprises a lithium metal composite oxide capable of reversible lithium intercalation/deintercalation, wherein each of Li2CO3 and LiOH is present on the surface of the lithium metal composite oxide in an amount of less than 1000 ppm. The cathode active material is obtained by the method comprising the steps of: washing a lithium metal composite oxide capable of reversible lithium intercalation/deintercalation with water; and drying and heat treating the lithium metal composite oxide.
