The railway (2) has rails (1) embedded in a concrete hardening (4), where a top side (6) of the hardening is situated higher than the foot of the rails. A sound-absorbing layer (8) is provided on the top side of the hardening and between the rails, where the sound-absorbing layer comprises standing synthetic fibers (10) with a free end for absorbing sounds of railway vehicles moving over the railway. The sound-absorbing layer consists of a mat (9) with the standing synthetic fibers having height of 4 to 7 centimeter.
