A television and a method for changing a function mode are provided to change a function mode selection direction into a forward or backward direction, thereby quickly changing the function mode and accordingly improving user's convenience. A function mode change switch(101) receives commands for function mode selection(or change) from a user. A memory(102) stores various data for the function mode. A controller(103) detects a click frequency of the function mode change switch, and drives a television by changing a function mode selection direction according to the click frequency. If the switch input is 'double click', the function mode selection direction is changed into a backward direction. If the switch input is 'one click', the function mode selection direction is changed into a forward direction.
