METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR HANDOVER DECISION BY USING CONTEXT INFORMATION IN A NEXT-GENERATION MOBILE COMMUNICATION NETWORKS

A method and an apparatus for determining handover by using context in a next generation mobile communication network are provided to determine a handover point based on various contexts usable in a terminal for efficient mobility management on the 4G network, thereby enabling an end user using the terminal to receives a service suitable for preference such as quality and cost. A terminal(300) requests context usable in a network to a context collection server(310) and receives context from the context collection server(312,318). The terminal periodically receives dynamically-changing contexts from the context collection server(320). The terminal updates the context through received dynamic information, and evaluates a selection priority of a network interface by transmission path with respect to each application program based on the context(322). The terminal generates a handover determination value for selection of the network interface by transmission path by applying a cost function to the evaluated selection priority, and performs handover by transmission path for each application program when using a specific service(324).
