The sulfur impurities reducing method involves providing a reduction zone for impurities in electrolyte of a cell, where inert anode and purification electrode are immersed in the electrolyte. A tube barrier of oxygen and reducers like aluminum, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide are provided in the electrolyte. The electrode current is interrupted in selected regions of the cell and sulfur impurities level are reduced in cells by screening emissions of electrolyte, before they get reintroduced in cell. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for execution of the method.
