The device has a horizontal parallelepiped shaped plate (48) in which gearshift and hand brake levers (44, 46) are assembled in advance for forming a unitary sub-assembly that is vertically mounted in an inverse U-shaped transversal sectioned central tunnel (14) via bottom of a body shell (10) of a motor vehicle i.e. two-door sedan type motor vehicle. The tunnel has an upper part (22) with passage openings (38, 40) for passing the gearshift and hand brake levers, and the body shell is formed of aluminum or aluminum alloy. An independent claim is also included for a method for assembling gearshift and hand brake levers on a body shell of a motor vehicle.
