A method and an apparatus for automatically recognizing a VSC board are provided to automatically switch an auto mode or a normal mode by detecting a coupling state of the VSC board. An apparatus for automatically recognizing a VSC(Video Signal Controller) board includes a VSC board(100), a PSU(200), a PDP(300), and a controller(400). The VSC board receives a video signal, converts the video signal to displayable image data. When an acceleration voltage is received, the PSU(Power Supply Unit) supplies corresponding voltages to driving ICs. The PDP(Plasma Display Panel) displays the image signal from the VSC board. The controller determines a coupling state between the VSC board and the PSU and changes the coupling state to a corresponding mode. The PSU includes an auto/normal detection terminal which is connected to a ground terminal of the VSC board.
